Built over 1100 years ago in AD 914 Warwick Castle is today the best preserved medieval castle in the world. In fact one of the earliest builders at Warwick Castle was William the Conqueror just two years after his famous 1066 Battle of Hastings.
On Sunday 21st June the castle opens its gates exclusively for Rotarians. You can visit the famous Kingmaker Exhibition and discover the part this stunning castle played in helping to make the Kings and Queens of England.
See the castle’s State Rooms with its extraordinary State dining room, the Great Hall, Queen Anne’s bedroom and walk the ramparts and towers. Oh yes. If you dare visit the dungeon, all the equipment is still there. In tact. And in full working order!
Let the tournament begin
Witness an incredible display of horsemanship and chivalry in a traditional Medieval Tournament on the castle’s pageant fields. We can cheer our favourite Knight in shining Armour as he takes up the challenge.
Birds of Prey
Marvel at this display of the ancient and noble art of falconary as these amazing birds swoop and dive in a display featuring eagles, vultures, owls and hawks.
The Warwick Bowman
This highly skilled archer will demonstrate his talents during a heroic display of accuracy, cunning and guile.
The Warwick Trebuchet
The world’s largest siege machine; a huge 18m trebuchet weighing 22 tonnes. This enormous catapult is an authentic recreation of one of the largest and most deadly military machines of all times.
Located on the banks of the River Avon in the Castle grounds, the Trebuchet shoots its ammunition 25 metres into the air and an amazing 300 metres down the length of the river island.
Tickets for this event are on a first come first served basis and are limited to just 8000 tickets. Please book early for this event, it really will be something you will remember for a lifetime – in fact it’s also a once in a lifetime opportunity to see life as it was hundreds of years ago – and you can be a real part of Ye Olde Englande.
